Aim
To provide hands-on training in breast ultrasound examination and intervention, empowering participants with skills to diagnose breast cancer early and accurately.
Target audience
• Radiologists, surgeons, ultra sonographers, mammographers and their trainees.
• All breast cancer multidisciplinary members who want to learn or improve their skills in breast ultrasound and intervention.
Theory
• Anatomy and pathology.
• Understanding breast anatomy and sonographic appearances of various pathologies, including benign breast lesions and features of breast cancer.
• Tips on breast intervention and procedures including core biopsies, vacuum assisted biopsies (VAB) localisation of lesions using various techniques.
Technique
• Basic ultrasound machine navigation.
• Standard and advanced scanning techniques, including elastography.
• New developments in image optimisation.
Procedures
• Hands on diagnostic ultrasound examination of various breast pathologies on real patients.
• Biopsy and localisation needle/apparatus demonstration.
• Demonstration and hands on training on the following procedures using various needles and simulators:
o Core biopsies,
o Vacuum assisted biopsies (VAB),
o Localisation of lesions including tissue markers and hook wires
